For over 35 years, Syndel USA and its sister company Syndel Canada have made Whatcom County home to their corporate headquarters, laboratories, and FDA-inspected manufacturing plant. One of the global leaders in fish health products for the aquaculture industry, Syndel’s products can be found throughout North America, Norway, and other countries around the world. Syndel’s products include a fish egg disinfectant under the brand name Ovadine, as well as biosecurity products, spawning agents, a fish anesthetic, water conditioners, and more.

In 2017, Syndel moved from unincorporated Whatcom County to the City of Ferndale, expanding their operations to an existing plant. During this move, the company recognized the need to remain in operations and worked closely with the City of Ferndale and other agencies to make the transition as seamless as possible.

Aaron Becker, Vice President of Operations and Manufacturing, noted that the close working relationship between his team and the City was key to this move.

“The City of Ferndale was clear from the beginning that they would work with us, and even visited our previous location to gain a better understanding of the scope of our operations and our overall plans,” said Becker. “This kind of pro-business attitude is unusual, yet helped in expediting the move.”

“The new location’s proximity to a skilled labor force as well as major transportation networks, including the Bellingham International Airport, will provide opportunities for further expansion and cost-savings as time goes on.”
